About

In recent years, the ECOWAS Commission has gradually taken steps to mainstream RE&EE into its regional activities and policies. In 2008, the 61st Session of ECOWAS Council of Ministers gave the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) a legal basis.

The Centre coordinates, executes, co-funds and supports programs, projects and activities in the scope of the following five result areas:

  • Effective regional sustainable energy promotion agency created and efficiently managed
  • Tailored sustainable energy policy and regulatory support frameworks created and implemented
  • Capacities on various sustainable energy aspects strengthened and applied
  • Knowledge management, awareness raising, advocacy and networks strengthened
  • Investments in sustainable energy projects and businesses mobilized and implemented

ECREEE is an actor in the Coalition's Household Energy initaitive.
